Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended size for an awning?
Depending on your property, we normally recommend that your awning is at least 500mm wider on each side than the area you wish to shade and with as deep a projection as possible. Popular awning sizes range from 2 x 1.5 m to 4 x 3m. Larger and smaller sizes can be made available.
All our awnings use 40mm square torsion bars, all manual awnings are fully adjustable for angle by the user. All metal work is electro static powder coating, and awning material is a minimum of 300 gram sun awning grade, full weave patterns.

Cheap inferior "IMPORTED COPY far east" are flooding the Cyprus Market, these awnings can be detected by the fact they use a 35mm torsion bar (if they have a torsion bar at all)  and are none angle adjusted buy the user from the ground.
The awning material on cheap "imports" tend to be 200 - 260 gram Polly or even nylon with printed "weaves".
The arms on copy awnings are often made with a poor quality recycled aluminium mix and painted rather than powder coated. They may look identical to "European / American" standard awnings, but the price will always be the dead give away...
Sun awnings made and sold within the EU must meet a critical list of safety features and manufacturing standards, no "far east import" to Cyprus meet with these essential standards.
Cheap price cheap product ! don't get caught out.
REMEMBER the cheap pound shop tools you can purchase, they often break the first time used ! don't end up with a heavy sun awning coming crashing down on you or your family!

What is the maximum and minimum size for an awning?

Awnings arms must be at least 500mm shorter than the awning width so that they can fit inside the awning when they are retracted (for instance a 3.0m wide awning cannot have arms longer than 2.5m). Absolute min/max dimensions vary with awning range and suitability. Remember fitting more than one awning will give maximum flexibility over large areas.

Can I fit the awning myself ?

Yes you can fit our sun awnings yourself, but please note, successfully fitting a sun awning is not as easy as it may first appear and is not recommended for the inexperienced DIY person. You will need to be very sure of the wall that you are fitting to, obviously have the correct tools, also the correct safety equipment. Assistance with adjusting, lifting and positioning the considerable weight of the awning is required. Electric powered awnings will need a electrical conection and should only be carried out by a qualified compitant person.

Where to fit the awning?

We can install your awning at virtually any point on your wall, but consider whether you will be able to walk underneath and open any doors or windows when the awning is out. We normally recommend that your awning is fitted at least 2.5m high from ground level and when extended the front of the awning should be approx 2m high, however this depends on specific requirements.

Are Sun awnings fabrics weatherproof?

Quality awning fabrics are highly weather resistant, but obviously cannot be literally weather proof. Irrespective of manufacture, NO PATIO AWNING is designed to be left out in severe weather conditions. All sun awnings given time will fade.
